Hello,

I recently reviewed my May bill and discovered something very confusing and disappointing. I'm hoping someone can help me or has perhaps had a similar experience.

In the first week of May, I traveled to Switzerland. I have a roaming package with A1, which normally works within the EU, but I didn't realize until I arrived that Switzerland isn't part of the EU roaming plan. Therefore, I couldn't use my mobile internet there.

I saw on the A1 website that I could activate a separate roaming data package for Switzerland, but the costs were quite high. Since I was only staying there for one night, I deliberately decided not to. According to the website, activation would have happened automatically when I logged in. So I deliberately didn't do that.

However, my bill now shows that I used 2MB of roaming data in Switzerland. This is really frustrating because I actually couldn't use any internet there at all and was very careful not to activate anything. I don't understand how data usage was still recorded and billed.

I would like to know:

  1. How is it possible that 2MB of roaming data was registered even though I did not activate the package?
  2. Is there any way to request a refund or at least get a detailed explanation?

I would greatly appreciate a response from the A1 team or someone in the community who has had similar experiences. Thank you in advance.

Hi @polar500

When you are a postpaid customer of A1 by default you can use up to 60€ per month for data roaming in a foreign country where A1 has a roaming agreement without purchasing a roaming package. When you connect to a network in a foreign country and you don’t have data for this country included in your plan or purchased a package you run the risk of being charged for the data you use at excessive rates. Deactivating data roaming on your device doesn’t fully protect you from data roaming. You can change the data roaming maximum limit of 60€ to 0€ per month by texting STOP to 3344 or maybe also through the Mein A1 portal.

You can also take a look at your so-called Einzelverbindungsnachweis (detailed itemized bill of your usage) in the Mein A1 portal.

You can try to contact customer service to see if they can refund you the cost for the 2 MB of data.

Best regards, NerdTech
