Hello. I have a Festnetz schnurgebundenes Telefon model TAP90 Arge W90. Yesterday my cat walked on the telephone buttons and the result is that I can hear the partner and the telephoning partner does not hear me any more. Is the telephone broken or the cat just changed some settings and is it possible to restore them?
Will appreciate your advice.

Hi KitKit,
I have studied the user manual for the TAP 90 and could not find a mute button. I also asked some colleagues who checked with a technician who knows this device from back when it was still common. There is no mute button and also no combination of keys which can switch of the microphone.
Is it possible that you upgraded to the MKT 90 at some point? Or maybe you got the wrong user manual.
The MKT 90 has a mute button, it looks like this: (the symbol next to "Stummschaltetaste")
See also the user manual attached below.
If you definitely do not have this button on your phone, make sure the cord between handset and phone is plugged in firmly on both sides.
If that is the case and it still won´t work properly, it is time for a new phone - repairing it would probably be possible but much more expensive than buying a new device.
We sell similar modells in our A1 Shops (for under 30 Euros if I remember correctly), you can also get them in most post offices.
Best regards,
Hermann

Hermann, thank you very much for your reply.
My phone does not have a mute button.
I found operating instructions for my model
https://www.kapsch.net/kbc/Insight/Customer_Portal/operatinginstructions/manuals/Endgerate/Analoge-Telefone/TAP90_Bedienungsanleitung?lang=de-AT
and instructions on how to check its functions
https://www.kapsch.net/kbc/Insight/Customer_Portal/operatinginstructions/manuals/Endgerate/Analoge-Telefone/TAP90_Montagehandbuch?lang=de-AT
The phone has a white button near W Taste, but I could not find any explanations about it and about its purpose.
Kind regards,
Natalia

Hello Natalia,
if you want to make sure wether your phone is broken, please disconnect it and try your neighbour's phone - if possible. We checked the line and everything's fine there! Maybe your cat did something bad to it - hard to determine.

Wolfgang

Thank you! I bought a new Festnetz phone last Friday. Probably the old one was really very old, I had it for about 18 years...
Hi Natalia,
good to know, the new phone should work just fine.
The TAP 90 is from a generation of devices from around 1990, so it very well could have been 25 years old, It probably would have lasted for a view more decades if repaired, but financially that just wasn´t an option.
