Using own router

I have A1 internet 100Mbps + IPTV, using a Thomson TG789 router.  The problem is that the wireless in the router broadcasts a signal that is too weak.  Can I replace this with my own router, and will the IPTV still work?  Any recommendations for a better router?

Hello!

In my opinion there is no need for a new router. I would recommend to buy a Wireless Access Point and connect it with your existing router. This is the most suitable solution. You can choose any Access Point you want without beeing afraid of troubles concerning routing or IPTV.

Kind regards
Actually I think the problem is that the TG789 router supplied by A1 has too many features disabled over the wifi.  I am not getting good connectivity for accessing media on my xbox 360 connected wirelessly to the pc which is connected hardwired.  So I dont think the access point will help.  I am looking for a better router, without disabled firmware.

I can't follow your thoughts. Do you mean that your PC is connected to the Router via cable and your Xbox is connected via the AP of the TG789? Then you can think about buying a Gigabit-Ethernet-Switch and a new Access Point. I do not understand why you want to buy a new router. The job of a router is routing packets to different networks and that is working fine I guess. If you are not convinced yet, you can have a look on the Fritz!Box products by AVM.

Kind regards

Do you change the ssid, use a ssid without special characters. example: austriandf Use aes encryption instead of tkip.
Thanks for these suggestions.  I finally discovered the problem.  The router was selecting channel 6 (automatic) for the wifi signal.  I set it to manual and then to channel 11 and everything worked as it should.  I dont understand whats wrong with channel 6 but maybe there is some other interference on that frequency.

probably too many other routers in your building using the same channel.

Should change automatically, but that does not always work.
